An inmate of the central prison in Hodeidah was shot dead by the Houthi militia

An inmate of the central prison in Al-Hodeidah Governorate was shot dead by the Houthi militia.

Sources in the central prison said that gunmen affiliated with the Houthi leader, Abu Haider Jahaf, opened fire directly on the inmates of the central prison in Hodeidah, following a dispute between one of the gunmen and a number of inmates, which led to the death of the prisoner Hisham Suleiman Al-Zubaidi, who was shot in the head.

The sources pointed out that the gunmen belonging to Jahaf, the recipients of the outer gate, are constantly bullying the inmates and soldiers, and they had previously opened fire at the prison director, Naji al-Qousi.

The Houthi militia has transformed the central prison, since its control of Hodeidah Governorate in 2014, into a huge detention center for juvenile inmates or kidnapped civilians opposed to its project.

Human rights reports estimate that the central prison in Hodeidah houses more than 1,400 prisoners and detainees, at a time when the legal capacity does not exceed 300 prisoners for the detention center, which consists of only 4 wards.

The kidnapped and the disappeared in this prison are subjected to serious violations, such as financial extortion, psychological and physical torture, and even deprivation of medication when their health deteriorates, in contravention of international conventions and norms.
