The Eid sacrifice in the city of Taiz and most of the Yemeni governorates has become an unattainable dream, due to the Houthi coup, the collapse of the currency and the crazy rise in prices, which the citizen could not absorb, as the price of the sacrifice ranges between 150 and 200 thousand riyals.
The historical collapse of the currency, and the siege imposed by the Houthi coup militia on the city for years, caused prices to rise in general, not only for Eid sacrifices, which exacerbated the suffering of the citizens.
Eid al-Adha comes, while millions of Yemeni families find themselves on the brink of starvation, while its rituals, which they used to live by buying a sheep for the feast and preparing cakes and sweets, are just memories.
In addition to the deterioration of the situation in all sectors, the war has made more than 20 million Yemenis in need of humanitarian aid, according to the United Nations.
Inflation and blockade
Citizens told Al-Sahwa Net that every year life gets worse, but this year is the most, the currency has reached unprecedented limits, and the citizen is without a salary or work in order to provide the most basic needs of the house and the holiday comes to open in the hearts of parents the pain and heartbreak because of The inability to provide the simplest needs of the feast for their children.
Citizen Yassin al-Amiri, a father of 7 children and an unemployed person, said that due to the current conditions that Yemen is experiencing in general and Taiz in particular, in light of the siege imposed on Taiz for seven years, Eid comes and I did not own any riyals, so how can I rejoice when I see my children in the corner of the house crying and replying to me Eid clothes, clothes and meat like the rest of their colleagues. I feel pain. I hope to die and not live in this situation that is repeated to me on many occasions and holidays.
A dream that did not come true
Citizen Mustafa Al-Faqih said, “Every year we had dreams, but this year the only dream was to save an amount to buy the Eid sacrifice, but because of the unexpectedly high prices, the dream of buying the sacrifice became impossible to achieve, and we will have to buy chicken instead of the sacrifice if we can.
Abdul Razzaq Al-Sharabi said that he was passing the second year in a row and he did not enter any kind of meat and did not know meat, whether on Eid or other than Eid, and he had decided to buy a sacrifice for this year, but when he came to the livestock market, he was surprised by the fantastic prices.
He said that the price of sacrifice ranges between 1,000 or one thousand and five hundred Saudi riyals, which is equivalent to 350 thousand Yemeni riyals.
Ibrahim al-Salami, a displaced person from Ibb governorate, said that he was unable to provide clothes, income, or even a sacrifice for Eid, due to unexpectedly high prices, and his only concern became how to provide the basic needs of the house only.
He added that he rented a house for 25,000 riyals and could not even defend the rent and had many arrears due to the lack of opportunity to work. He said that he deliberately escaped from the house so that his children would not demand new clothes or the Eid they were accustomed to.
