Breast Cancer: Research at the Tata Memorial Hospital has found clinical breast testing to be as effective as mammography for the investigation of breast cancer. According to research published in the UK’s BMJ, skilled health professionals in a 15–20-minute clinical breast test found that it was diagnosed early and showed a decrease in mortality of about 30 percent of women 50 years or older.
Clinical breast test to detect breast cancer
Dr. Rajendra Badve, director of the Tata Memorial Center, said, “Technology can help save 15,000 lives in breast cancer in India and 40,000 in low, middle income countries in a year.” Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among Indian women. Research started in 1998, 1.5 lakh women were made volunteer. Breast cancer has emerged as the biggest factor in cancer deaths in the country in recent years. One reason for this is the late detection of cancer.
The incidence of breast cancer in Mumbai increased by about 40 percent between 1992 and 2016. Dr. Badway, one of the research team, said, “The case of breast cancer has been found to be around 30 per 100,000 population per year in India. The death rate is 15 per cent per lakh per year. Still, clinical breast cancer testing The 30% reduction in mortality is obvious. ” Let us tell you that there are three main methods to detect breast cancer – self-breast test, clinical breast test through health worker or scan as mammography.
Mammography equally effective in research at Tata Memorial
Breast self-testing is the process of basic screening of breast cancer in which you can check your breast by yourself and find out if you are in the grip of breast cancer. In the first stage of breast cancer, it becomes easier to get treatment at the beginning with a checkup. Mammography or mammogram is a tool for the screening of breast, which is used in the detection and treatment of breast cancer.
Dr. Gauravi Mishra says that there is evidence to show that the self-breast test is very effective. However, earlier research had shown that mammography scans reduced the death due to breast cancer in women above 50 years by 30 percent, but no such research was done in relation to clinical breast testing. Mammography is popular in western countries and urban centers of India, but scan facilities are not available at the village level. Apart from this, the cost incurred on mammography is about two thousand rupees.
