Coronavirus Case in India: There is an outcry in the country and the world due to Corona. The country is now facing the third wave of corona virus. At the same time, the vaccine is being considered a very effective weapon in the fight against Corona. Meanwhile, researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi have identified phytochemicals in the petals of a Himalayan plant that may prove effective in the treatment of Kovid infection.
IIT Mandi in a statement quoted Dr. Shyam Kumar Masakapalli, Associate Professor, BioX Center, School of Basic Science, as saying, “Plant-derived chemicals, phytochemicals, are particularly known for their functional activity and low toxicity among a variety of therapeutic agents. considered promising.
Drug search continues
In addition to routine vaccination against COVID, there is a worldwide search for other types of drugs that can prevent the virus from attacking the human body. This team has detected these chemicals in the petals of the Himalayan Buransh plant. The scientific name of this plant is Rhododendron arboreum and is consumed differently by the local population for various health benefits.
Scientists from IIT Mandi in collaboration with scientists from International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), New Delhi have scientifically tested the chemical extracts of this plant. Researchers extracted phytochemicals from burdock petals and studied them on biochemical analysis and computer models to understand its antiviral properties.
Omicron Variant Alert: Diarrhea can also be a symptom of Omicron, do not ignore
ICGEB scientist Dr. Ranjan Nanda said, we have tested the chemicals in the petals of this plant and found it to be effective against the Kovid virus to a great extent. The research findings of this team have been published recently in the journal Biomolecular Structure and Dynamics. Quinic acid and other products were found to be rich in its extracts obtained after keeping the petals of burlap in hot water.

Cellular studies have shown that these phytochemicals have two types of effects against viruses. They bind to potases, the main enzyme that plays a key role in viral replication, and to human angiotensin-converting enzyme-two (ACE), which mediates viral entry into host cells.
The researchers also showed through experimental tests that the petal extract could inhibit covid infection in Vero E6 cells obtained from the kidney of an African green monkey. This extract does not have any adverse effect on the cells. Scientists say that more scientific studies are urgently needed on the results obtained from the petals of this plant.
