The National Investigation Committee holds hearings for a number of journalists who have been subjected to violations





The National Commission to investigate allegations of human rights violations carried out closed hearings for a number of journalist victims, on the occasion of the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists.

Victims of journalists provided shocking testimonies and serial information about the violations that have affected this important group in society, affecting their right to life, physical and moral integrity, and the great harm they have been subjected to.

Victims listed the violations they were subjected to, ranging from harassment, intimidation, expulsion, prosecution, and illegal surveillance, through to kidnapping, detention, enforced disappearance, and ending with torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.

It also reviewed the victims’ testimonies that the perpetrators intended to harm them because of the nature of their work related to raising society’s awareness and disseminating information, and their right to freedom of opinion and expression.

On this occasion, the National Investigation Committee confirms that it will continue to conduct effective investigations into all allegations of violations against journalists and identify the responsible persons and entities in preparation for holding them accountable. She pointed out that ending impunity for crimes committed against journalists is one of the most urgent issues to ensure freedom of expression and access to information for all citizens.

The committee urges all parties and the various parties to make efforts to prevent all forms of violence against journalists, targeting workers in the various media, and take prompt internal accountability measures for those involved in committing these violations.
