UNICEF commends the role of the local authority in Marib in facilitating the work of relief teams

UNICEF praised the level of cooperation of the official authorities in Marib with the organization and the facilitation of the work of its field teams working in the field and overcoming all the difficulties that lay before them during the past years.

This came during a meeting The Undersecretary of Ma’rib Governorate, Dr. Abd Rabbo Moftah, today, with the Director of the UNICEF office in Yemen, Engineer Walid Numan, aspects of cooperation and coordination between the local authority and the organization, and ways to strengthen the humanitarian partnership between them to implement several projects in the governorate during the coming period.

The Director of the UNICEF office stated that his visit aims to closely examine the humanitarian and relief situation in the Marib Governorate, assess the conditions of the displaced, determine their basic needs, and consult with the leadership of the local authority and directors of the concerned executive offices in determining the priorities of the projects that the organization intends to implement to ensure that the new IDPs are targeted in all displacement camps. What is new in the governorate, and following up the progress of work in the projects and activities implemented by the organization in the governorate, especially in the areas of water and environmental sanitation, supporting the health sector, training and qualifying medical personnel in the governorate.

For his part, Deputy Moftah praised the interventions of the UNICEF and its humanitarian projects implemented in the Marib Governorate in the fields of health, education, water and protection … appreciating its great humanitarian role in providing relief and sheltering the displaced, meeting their needs and alleviating their suffering during the past two years.

Miftah called on the organization to double its efforts, intensify its interventions, and expand the scope of its humanitarian projects and various relief and shelter activities to include the largest possible number of displaced people in the governorate in light of the continued influx of thousands of new IDPs to the governorate on an almost daily basis, which required the establishment of dozens of new camps and the expansion of previous camps to accommodate the numbers.
