On Friday, US envoy Tim Lenderking stressed the need to support the Yemeni government’s efforts to achieve stability and alleviate the humanitarian crisis.
He added, in a meeting in which he discussed with the permanent members of the Security Council the importance of resolving the Yemeni conflict, that it is necessary to facilitate the work of the UN mission to inspect the Safir Reservoir, which has become more like a ticking time bomb.
The US State Department also indicated in a statement that Lenderking stressed the need to take steps to solve the economic crisis in Yemen.
Lenderking had called on the Yemeni parties to take advantage of the moment and work together to reach a negotiated solution and stop the Houthi attack on the Marib Governorate, during his European tour, last Wednesday.
In a video clip published by the US State Department on its Twitter account for Near Eastern Affairs, he said, “The Yemeni people are suffering terribly, and all the conflicting parties must work together to reach a political solution.”
The US State Department announced that Lender King’s fourth visit to the Arab Gulf, scheduled for today since he took office last February, will focus on joint international efforts to promote a peace agreement and efforts to address the humanitarian crisis in Yemen.
